Welcome to the wine blog that combines wine with stories

wine-tasting-book

We all love drinking good wine.

Would it be possible to also love reading about wine? I think the answer is yes.

There are a lot of resources about wine: books, magazines, websites, blogs, podcasts. But I found that they are mostly aimed at either the connoisseur or the beginner.

The literature for connoisseurs is usually packed with encyclopaedic details. While those for beginners, simplistic generalisations.

Regardless of their target audience, some articles about wine lack heart. Don’t get me wrong: I love knowledge (I am a wine geek after all!). But writings that only have a scientific and almost academic perspective do wine a disservice. It’s like considering music only by studying the mathematics behind the the musical score.

Wine is about more than just the technicalities. Wines have fragrances, textures. Scents can remind a person of a place, a moment, retrieved for a few seconds by a sensory experience.

Why this blog

I created this wine blog to bridge a gap. I want to talk about wine, grapes, wine regions and winemaking. But I want to connect these facts with stories.

The Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson said “Wine is bottled poetry”. This blog exists to unveil that poetry.

The stories I will share may be about a wine, its place, the people behind it, their culture and heritage. The story can inspire a particular wine – or vice versa. However, all these narrations, in one way or another, will resonate with a specific wine. The two ingredients, wine and story, will each contribute their own emotion and character (hopefully!) making a perfect pairing.

Who is this blog for

Wine and other Stories is for readers who think that the grape, winemaking techniques, climate, soil, geography are only a part of a bigger story.

This wine blog will merge the feelings of stories, poetry, music, and other forms of art with the emotions that good wines spark. After all, emotions are what we live for. Both wine and stories can ignite them, so why not combine the two?

In this blog, I will provide the readers with knowledge of wine and its places. Always through the lens of a good story, I will create connections with history, culture, tradition and of course the people that produce the wine.

You might be a beginner to the world of wine or already have some knowledge. Regardless of your background or expertise as a drinker/taster, as long as you like wine and storytelling this blog will have something for you.

What you will be reading

This wine blog consists of four main sections:

  • Knowledge: articles about processes and techniques of the world of wine; how wine is produced, what and who it’s made by, how you can taste it, what you can pair it with, etc.
  • Stories: the core of this blog. These articles will combine wine with art, music, poetry and storytelling. I will match every post with one or more wines, depending on the emotional resonance that the story evokes
  • Places: reviews and introductions about wine regions in the world; with the occasional sprinkling of facts, always in the context of the place’s history and traditions
  • Journal: articles documenting my personal journey into wine. Events I attended, interviews with notable wine people, diary extracts from my wine travels, etc.

Getting involved

Sharing, comments, and discussions are more than welcomed – as long as the communication remains respectful. Disagreements are certainly possible, but intentional insults will not be tolerated.
